2012 StarFest / StarTrek
Day 1, Friday September 28
We checked into the Phoenix Arizona Biltmore as part of an 11-member group from Orange County. That evening MBCA held a reception for us.
Wonderful appetizers were served. The President of the Desert Stars section, Bud Colinger, gave a short presentation. During the reception,
there was a great slide show with members that were highlighted from all over the United States. We were surprised and delighted to see our
very own Orange County Section member Don Abrams and his good friend Betty. They had several slides of them at Orange County Section events.
Saturday was Rally Day.
The Rally took us all around Phoenix, Scottsdale and surrounding areas. This took about four and one half hours to complete. This was a
great way to get acquainted with a new town. Saturday evening the Orange County Section were guests at the home of Bob and Pat Negrini of
Scottsdale, friends of Rich and Polly Dix. They spoiled us with a full gourmet menu with all the trimmings, including appetizers, tri trip
steak, margaritas, dessert and more. They were truly outstanding hosts to our section.
Sunday morning we had a chance to view the car show and walk around to see all the beautiful cars that were entered in the Concours. That
concluded the StarFest part of the trip. We then headed north to Flagstaff on highway 17 to start StarTrek and to make our way to the South
Rim of Grand Canyon National Park. On the way we stopped for lunch at Beaver Street Brewery in Flagstaff, and then went on to the Grand
Canyon. After checking into the Grand Hotel and getting settled, we headed to an outdoor area where we had appetizers and wine. That night
we had a light dinner at the Grand Hotel dinning room. We were entertained by a Navaho Native American. He played various handmade
instruments and sang very peaceful music.
Monday after breakfast we went into the village to start our tour of the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. We spent the better part of the day
sightseeing on the south rim and riding the shuttle buses. Wow! Says it all. That night we had a fabulous dinner at the El Trovar Hotel. We
then returned to the hotel tired and ready to get a good nights' sleep. Tuesday we checked out of our hotel and started home.
