Everyone who attended our weekend Star Trek in Palm Desert had a wonderful time. Beginning with our cocktail party at the hotel on Friday
evening, through our drive to Yucca Valley with all its beauty to our fabulous dinner at the Cliffhouse, we all felt it was a success.
Saturday morning, we caravanned the forty miles toYucca Valley, and were met at the Welcome Center by Bob and Betty Leone. Bob, who had been
mayor, gave us an overview of the area before we headed out to the Gubler Orchid Farm. Anyone who likes orchids will be astounded by the
varieties that were shown as we went on the tour. The knowledgeable guides gave tips on growing and tending orchids while several of our
members bought their favorites to bring home. Our next stop was the Roadhouse Café where we ate a delicious lunch. Then it was on to
Pioneertown to enjoy the old west with cowboys, horses, bad guys, saloon girls and a sheriff all doing skits for the audience. Many western
movies and TV series were filmed in the area and in the town.
Our evening was completed with a delicious dinner at the Cliffhouse in La Quinta. They deserve a round of applause for their food and
service, which was impeccable. Shirley Hern installed the elected officers after our meal and we celebrated with some adult beverages. The
weekend flew by and seemed to be over too soon. Thank you to all who attended. Let’s make next year’s Star Trek even better.
