The 27th Annual Newport Beach Concours d’ Elegance took place at the prestigious St. Regis Resort in Dana Point, CA. Local car clubs were
asked to display their cars in car corrals. Due to a lack of communication, we only had a week to find members who would be willing to show
The Honored Marque this year was the Mercedes Benz, so how could we not represent our club? So I called Bill Ainsworth, Gerhard Schnuerer,
Don Minkoff and posted information on our the web page www.mboc.info.
Bill Ainsworth showed his 1961 190SL, Clint Ferguson’s his 1960 190SL and Robert Tripodi, Jr.’s 1957 190SL. Gerhard also showed his 1958
300SL,which was driven by Christopher Rhodes of the Design Center. Gerhard also showed his 1966 Mercedes Unimog Car Carrier. Unfortunately,
the Unimog couldn’t maneuver the narrow roadway into the corral, so had to stay out in the parking lot. Don Minkoff displayed his 1956
Both Gerhard and Don had vehicles in the Concours and both won trophies in their respective classes. Harold and Donna Hughes had their 1980
540SL and Dot and John Lindeman showed their 1967 250SL.
One of the most talked about automobiles was Nadine and Bob Schwartz’s 2006 Mercedes B200 Turbo. The weather cooperated with sun and cool
breezes and wiped away earlier worries of drizzle. Other car corrals were the Lamborghini’s, Porches and Ferrari’s. We all toured the
beautiful grounds and occasionally hailed a ride on a passing golf cart.
We enjoyed looking at all the beautiful cars from the antiques to the exotics. The day was a success for the club; we got to talk to
prospective members and handing out club pens and luggage tags. Robert Tripodi, Jr. was thrilled to have won the Blue Ribbon for Best of Car
I want to express my sincere thanks to all who displayed their cars. Next year it will be even better.
Thank You to Bob and Nadine Schwartz for the Great Photos
